5k Club Championship.
The first Meads Runners 5k Club championship, took place last night along Eastbourne's beautiful seafront. Starting at the bottom of Holywell Hill the race headed East as far as Fusciadi's ice cream shop beyond the pier where it's a u-turn and return to the start. The route itself is pancake-flat and the paths are wide enough to allow for comfortable overtakes, so it is perfect terrain for a PB. As you’d expect for a 5k race, there are no pit stops, but there were plenty of refreshments being handed out afterwards at 'The Ship'. There were some remarkable results. Have we seen the world's fastest pregnant lady? Due in 7 weeks, Benita Estevez (and her bump) crossed the line to raptous applause in an incredible 35:46! Katie Hilsden in only her second 5k, achieved a time of 19:23 to take first woman and second place. Nick Campbell couldn't stay away from us for long and returned to the club, to win with 19:16.
